Israel Attacks Iran

Tehran plays down reported Israeli attacks, signals no retaliation | Reuters

Last night, based on what we know so far, Israel struck an Iranian Air Base but did not attack a nearby nuclear facility. Details are still somewhat murky but it appears that Israel’s intent was to hit something real, but not of utmost importance to the regime, in part to prove that Israel has the capability and will to strike inside Iran. Iran for its part seems not to want a bigger war, and why would they now knowing that they are vulnerable? In fact, Iran is not even admitting that there was an Israeli strike, saying that explosions were simply their own air defense system in action. After all, they don’t want to admit to their people that Israel penetrated Iranian defenses. So far, it seems a perfect strike by Israel.

There are a lot of videos being posted on Twitter that purport to be explosions in Iran. I have no reason to believe that any particular one of them is real though I do suspect that some are...there's just no way to know which ones.

As of 5:30 AM on Friday, Dow Jones futures are only down 50 points, yawning off the whole thing and even oil futures are down, perhaps in relief at the idea that, for now, a wider war has been averted. Nobody should think for a moment, though, that Iran's desire to eliminate Israel has done anything but increase.

Wait, a Rockies assistant coach did WHAT?

Just One Thing: Katherine Maher IS the problem

NPR chose their new CEO before the devastating article for The Free Press by NPR editor Uri Berliner, who has since resigned from NPR. Her name is Katherine Maher and she’s the absolutely perfect representation of every problem Berliner was talking about. Maher has tweeted about hating Donald Trump, about her own cis white mobility privilege, about how looting is understandable because of slavery, and about not liking the terms boy and girl because they “erase language for non-binary people.” In a TED talk, she said that “our reverence for the truth is getting in the way of getting things done”. (I left out a couple of words to make her point crystal clear.) NPR can either be a leftist propaganda outlet or a recipient of government funds. It shouldn’t be either but definitely can’t be both.

Here she is opposing truth in service of some other claimed goals (with a brief use of foul language at the end by the owner of the YouTube channel):

She wants, I kid you not, the "minimum viable truth."
