SO LAST NIGHT'S DEBATE WAS PRETTY WORTHLESS And I know it because all the media coverage is about how the debate was pretty much a nothingburger. This story from Politico says that it was a lot of arguing by a bunch of white guys and some ladies. I think the biggest thing to come out of the debates is that Liz Warren wants to take your perfectly fine private health insurance away from you and put hospitals out of business.

IS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY LOCO? That's what this column says.

AND DO WE REALLY NEED TO CALL FOR ABORTION RIGHTS FOR WOMEN WHO DON'T HAVE LADY PARTS INSIDE? I'm of course talking about trans women, who don't have a uterus but Julian Castro thinks needs access to abortion. Mmmkay.

dIF YOU DON'T LIKE GERRYMANDERING, FIX IT AT THE STATE LEVEL So says the US Supreme Court who essentially said it is not the court's role to interfere in state level political battles. I think they are right. This is why I support some form of non-political fair districting for our state. Take it out of the hands of politicians once and for all.

WE CAN'T ASK PEOPLE IF THEY ARE IN THE COUNTRY LEGALLY ON THE CENSUS. Although the Supreme Court did leave the possibility of that question being on the census, they have temporarily prevented it from being on the upcoming census. Why? Read this but the short story is they didn't like the Administration's justification for adding it. Which if the larger question about whether they CAN ask it is that the Secretary has no limits on what they can add, why does the reason matter? I'm going to have to read more about this when I have time.

YES, WE HAVE A CRISIS AT THE SOUTHERN BORDER. NO, IT IS NOT TRUMP'S FAULT. The situation at the southern border is horrific and untenable. I'd love to have politicians who were not so callous as to use this to score cheap political points, but I'm stuck with what we have. Rich Lowry has a great column here that calls out our "leaders" for their nonsense. We need border security and humanitarian aid for those in detention facilities. We need both, or the problem just keeps growing.

BY THE WAY, WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT IMMIGRANT DEATHS NOW, BUT NOT WHEN OBAMA WAS IN OFFICE? To be clear, we need to care about immigrants dying trying to get into the US and our role in enticing them here. Now and in the past.
