It was exactly the kind of start to the season the Colorado Rockies wanted.
They got good pitching and hit the ball well in a 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday at Marlins Park.
Starter Kyle Freeland went seven innings and gave up a run on two hits with only one walk and five strikeouts.
The Rockies got on the scoreboard with a four-run fourth and then added two more runs in the fifth, one coming on Trevor Story's first home run of the season. The Rockies banged out nine hits and spots four through eight in the lineup each produced an RBI.
The Rockies and Marlins play game two on Friday, March 29. German Marquez will go against Trevor Richards.
Rockies On Deck pregame coverage starts at 4:30 p.m. MDT on KOA NewsRadio 850 AM and 94.1 FM.
After the game, Freeland joined Mike Rice on KOA NewsRadio's Lewis & Logan show.
