There's something about a laugher in the midst of a pennant race.

The Colorado Rockies routed the Philadephia Phillies, 10-1, on Monday night at Coors Field and drew closer in the race for the second N.L. Wild Card in the process.

Nolan Arenado's RBI single got things started for the Rockies in a five-run third inning. Gerardo Parra added an RBI base hit and Tony Wolters and Jon Gray each drew a walk with the bases loaded. The Rockies also scored on a wild pitch with the bases full.

David Dahl cracked a two-run home run in a three-run fourth inning to break the game open.

All of that was more than enough support for starter Jon Gray, who got the call when Tyler Anderson was scratched with shoulder soreness.

Gray went seven innings and gave up one run on four hits, walked three and struck out seven. He picked up the win to get to 12-8.

The game also marked the return of shortstop Trevor Story, who had missed a week with inflammation in his elbow. Story went 2-5 with a pair of doubles.

The Rockies still trail the Dodgers by a game-and-a-half in the N.L. West after L.A. beat Arizona, 7-4. The Cardinals lost to the Brewers, 6-4, so the Rockies are within a half-game of St. Louis in the race for the second N.L. Wild Card.
