What's on the Colorado Senate's Agenda This Year?

SENATE PRESIDENT KEVIN GRANTHAM ON AT 2 TODAY To discuss the legislative agenda for this term.  I'm going to be asking a LOT of questions about Transportation today.  I'll perhaps take some from you also.

IS GENTRIFICATION ALL BAD?  My 3pm guest is Howard Husick from City Journal (side note: if you aren't reading City Journal you should be, it's full of great writers doing great stories, click through here to see the website) points out quite eloquently how anti-gentrification types miss the upside to people moving in and out of neighborhoods while interventions by government make things worse.  Read the article here

THIS IS HOW I'VE LANDED ON SH*HOLEGATE And Andrew Klavan in the aforementioned City Journal lays it out.  I don't care.  And neither should you.  If this is what it takes to shrug the mantle of idea suppressing political correctness off a ledge, we should all not only not condemn Trump, we should cheer him.  All you Trumpets may be on to something there.  Here's some of the high points:

I don’t know exactly what Trump said in a closed-door meeting with senators at the White House this week. Unnamed sources say that he referred to some African countries and Haiti as “shitholes.” Maybe so; sounds like him. In any case, when it comes to a chance to attack Trump, our journalists don’t waste time with fact-gathering or source-identifying. Like Madonna, they just strike a pose. Various media knuckleheads have reacted to the alleged comment by calling Trump “racist,” “Nazi,” “Evil,” and a “terrorist sympathizer.”

(Personally, my first thought on hearing about the remark was: “What squirrely little tattle-tale of a weasel went running to the press with that?” But never mind. That’s just me.)

Let’s state the obvious. Some countries are shitholes. To claim that this is racist is racist. They are not shitholes because of the color of the populace but because of bad ideas, corrupt governance, false religion, and broken culture. Further, most of the problems in these countries are generated at the top. Plenty of rank-and-file immigrants from such ruined venues ultimately make good Americans—witness those who came from 1840s potato-famine Ireland, a shithole if ever there was one! It takes caution and skill to separate the good from the bad.

You really should read the rest.

I WONDER HOW TRUMP BECAME A RACIST IN JUST 17 YEARS?  Ideas like racism are usually implanted early in life.  That's not to say that one can't become a racist after many years, but it does seem unlikely.  Has anyone asked Jesse Jackson why he praised a racist in 1998?

A TECH FOUNDER SAYS MIDDLE AMERICA IS TOO VIOLENT AND RACIST TO DESERVE JOBS And there should be nothing shocking in finding out a San Fran lib looks down her nose at Americans who don't think exactly like she does.  From the Daily Caller story about her nastygram to middle America:

She declares that if middle American towns can begin fixing their schools, and, essentially, “clean up their act,” then people like Byerley will “want to live there.” She even says that the fixing these problems would bring the “best and brightest” of our youth who “would rather scrape by in SF than live in a huge house somewhere if it meant dealing with with bigots and backwards ideologies every day,” to middle America.

She has since make her Twitter page private, which is odd because she's allegedly the head of an internet marketing firm.  This sort of bigotry is what I'd love to see called out on a regular basis.  This dumbass dame appears to be from Illinois which is a state run like hot garbage.  She now lives in San Francisco, where last I checked homeless people were allowed to poop in the streets still.  And yet, she wants to lecture me on how things are in the sticks.  She couldn't find the sticks if her life depended on it.  Idiot.  Please do us all a favor and stay in your West Coast nirvana and be taxed out of existence.

ANOTHER COLUMN ON HOW DAMAGING THE AZIZ ANSARI STORY IS TO THE #METOO MOVEMENT  I mentioned this yesterday but a lot of you jokers were off work so you may have missed it.  An article on a feminist website purported to show how comedian and lefty darling Aziz Ansari is just another rapist.  Except he's not.  The girl who gave the story to Babe.net had a regrettable encounter that was more sexual than she wanted and she's now trying to make it into sexual assault.  It. Is. Not. Sexual. Assault.  This is EXACTLY the sort of ammunition those who want to discount the larger #metoo movement need.  This woman and this feminist website should be ashamed and embarrassed for what they've done.  This is a GREAT column from the NYTimes about it.

WILL WORKPLACE RAIDS STEM ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?  Experts on both sides of the debate say yes.  The Trump Administration has been upping raids on businesses who employ illegal immigrants and it's having the effect of letting those folks know they might not be able to find work anymore.  My only complaint is the lax laws businesses have to follow and the crappy fines they have to pay if they are caught.  Both of those items need to be addressed NOW.  The illegal immigrants shouldn't be the only ones to pay in this situation.

AND YOU THOUGHT YOUR FAMILY PHOTOS WERE BAD This Missouri family got their "retouched" family photos from the person they hired who they THOUGHT was a professional.  You must see these.  But make sure you're not drinking coffee because it will shoot out of your nose.

THIS IS HOW YOU WAGE A WAR ON PLASTICS I love and hate plastics.  I love the convenience and lightweight, but I hate seeing garbage bags floating through the air and into our previously unspoiled natural beauty.  But I loathe a government "solution" so I'm happy a UK grocery store has decided to go entirely plastic free with ALL their products.  We'll see if this catches on here.

I'M NOT YOUR MOMMA, BUT NO ONE NEEDS THE MUCH SODA Have you seen the guy filling up his KFC chicken bucket with soda?  Yeah, you should.

REMEMBER WHEN WE HAD TO STOP DRIVING BECAUSE WE WERE GOING TO RUN OUT OF OIL?  The environmentalists were wrong again when they fought against increased drilling in the US.  Good thing they lost because this:

The economic and political impacts of soaring U.S. output are breathtaking, cutting the nation’s oil imports by a fifth over a decade, providing high-paying jobs in rural communities and lowering consumer prices for domestic gasoline by 37 percent from a 2008 peak.

But I'm sure us becoming a top world oil producer is a bad thing somehow.  We should let the OPEC have that role instead.
