IS IT RACIST TO TELL THE TRUTH? I DON'T THINK SO. BUT.... President Trump has given a LOT of ammunition to those who want to paint him as a racist after he said during an Oval Office meeting:
'Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?'
It was an inartful way of asking why the US has to bear the responsibility for displaced people from 3rd world countries to our south. In a vacuum, I think this isn't as bad as it seems, but let's face it, Trump has a problem with at least appearing to be a racist. And this does not help. Especially when he referenced the whitest country on the planet as an example of people he does want here. Let me rephrase this entire thing in a less controversial way. If he had simply said,
The US bears an undue burden when people of low literacy and marketable skills who may or may not speak the language come here illegally. Though we welcome people from developed countries who bring with them a high level of education and skills which are a boon to our economy, it is more challenging for us to handle an influx of low skill migrants who don't.
Then this becomes a rational economic argument, don't you think? And is he wrong about Haiti and El Salvador being countries you wouldn't necessarily want to live in? How many of you know a church who regularly goes to Haiti to build buildings and schools and churches over and over again? Haiti is run by a patently corrupt government and it's people live on an average per capita income of $350 A YEAR. Sure, if you live in an urban area it skyrockets to $409 A YEAR. Haiti's literacy rate is 61%. The literacy rate in the rest of the Caribbean averages 90%. In the Dominican Republic, which shares an island with Haiti, it's 91%. In short, it is a sh*thole. And let's be real, when you import people, you import their culture. El Salvador has the highest murder rate in the WORLD. The Little Haiti community in Miami has a crime rate 133% higher than the national average. This was an accurate statement made by a man with too much baggage to make it. And not everyone in Africa disagrees. Read this:
"President Donald Trump is absolutely right. Africa is a continent of shit," says Mamady Traore, a 30-year-old sociologist in the West African nation of Guinea. "When you have heads of state who mess with the constitutions to perpetuate their power. When you have rebel factions that kill children, disembowel women as saints, who mutilate innocent civilians. Frankly, it must be said that it's crap."
Trump once again has either shown his true heart when it comes to black people (an argument being made with great veracity by many who oppose him) or he's said something stupid but isn't a racist. I don't know what is in Donald Trump's heart, but if you take the many, many instances of him giving the appearance of racism, it's hard to not think that there might some THERE there, if you know what I mean. And that's not just sad, it's depressing. I sure hope Trump supporters don't try to defend this, because the way he said it DOES matter.
BUT IT MIGHT NOT BE WHAT WAS INITIALLY REPORTED ANYWAY And hat's off to Jake Tapper for engaging in journalism and trying to set the record straight on what actually did happen. Read his tweet string here.

IF YOU ARE PRO LAW AND ORDER, YOU NEED TO SUPPORT THE REPEAL OF FEDERAL POT LAWS Sometimes my American brethren drive me crazy. A new Quinnipiac poll out shows that a full 70% of American do NOT want the feds to enforce federal pot laws. It stands to reason that this would equate to an equal number of people who want the feds to change the pot laws entirely, but NO. Only 58% say pot should be legalized by the Feds. What??? And Republicans, who have long told me they are the party of limited government and want a state's rights argument for things like Medicaid block grants are against it 62% to 33%?? This makes me irritated because it is entirely inconsistent. Not to mention, this column makes a great point that this issue could hurt the GOP in the midterms as liberals come out in droves to support more freedom as the GOP supports the nanny state. The world is upside down.
HAVE YOU EVER LEARNED SOMETHING AS AN ADULT AND IMMEDIATELY WONDERED HOW YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS ALREADY? Here are two for you. About 10 years ago I learned from a caller that cars have little arrows next to the gas tank icon on your gas gauge to tell you what side of the car the gas tank was on. Mind. Blown. And last week, I found out that the "why did the chicken cross the road" is a suicide joke! WHAT???
THE INTERNET IS SPYING ON ME. Because last night I videotaped my Kitchen Aid mixer spiralizer attachment I was using to send the video to my son. Don't ask. I didn't send the video anywhere, I just took it on my phone. Today when I went to YouTube, which I do EVERY day, there is a KitchenAid Mixer spiralizer attachment video from 7 months ago on my recommended feed. The internet owns us all.
WHY WOULD ANYONE PAY 5 MILLION BUCKS FOR A 30 SECOND SUPER BOWL SPOT? It's happening and NBC says the Super Bowl LII is nearly sold out. I happen to be in the ad business (and if you want to support the show, please visit and shop at my advertisers) and I must wonder if this is worth it. Back in the day, maybe 10 years ago, when Super Bowl ads were special and no one had seen them until the day of the game, maybe. But now? You've got a brand with a serious image problem and commercials that everyone sees on the internet before, so what's the point?
SOCIALISM IS GREAT IN VENEZUELA! JUST KIDDING, IT'S HORRIBLE! There are now food riots in Venezuela where people are starving because the state run government has price fixed things to a point where nothing is available. The starving people have taken to looting government stores and killing cows in fields to eat. But I'm sure a college student in America somewhere thinks it's just because they do socialism wrong.
DEAR YOUNG WOMEN, BEING A SUGAR BABY IS PRETTY MUCH HOOKING Have you heard about these "sugar baby" sites? They are where young women (or men I hear now too) can be "matched" with older wealthy men for...um...arranged "relationships" where the older men pay the bills for the girls in exchange for...something. I've heard women say that these relationships are platonic, but I think that's hot garbage. The odd thing is, I'm not opposed to legalizing prostitution, but we should call this what it is, which is high level hooking.
YOU NEED ANOTHER GRETA VAN FLEET SONG TODAY You're welcome.
MY SECRET BOYFRIEND DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ME! And I'm thrilled that Charlie Blackmon will be a Rockie for another year. Although I shouldn't expect it, I'm sure he will send me flowers on a regular basis now that he's making a cool 14 million. Well he might after he finds out about our relationship.
YOU PROBABLY NEED TO JAZZ UP YOUR JOB TITLE Unless you are advertising for a job, of course. There seems to be a growing trend of adding stupid words to a job title like "Wizard" or "Genius" or some other something that blows smoke up someone's hiney.
