The family of 19-year-old De'Von Bailey is calling for an independent investigation into their son's death. A surveillance video shows Bailey running from police and he appears to be shot in the back. Officers had been dispatched on a robbery call.
Police say they will release dispatch tapes and body cam video later this week when their investigation is concluded. Colorado Springs Mayor, John Suthers,has urged citizens not to rush to judgement and to wait for information that he says will show a clear set of facts.
But at a rally in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, members of the Black community expressed doubt about the transparency of the investigation and its outcome. They called for a grand jury investigation to be run by a special prosecutor. They say the current investigation is mired in conflicts of interest.
