Colorado Voters To Decide Oil And Gas Measure

New restrictions for the oil and gas industry will be on the statewide November ballot.  The Colorado Secretary of State's Office announced yesterday that Initiative 97 had enough petition signatures to qualify.  If passed, it would mean oil and gas development sites would have to be at least 25-hundred feet from occupied buildings and other areas deemed vulnerable.  Current regulations outline a 500-foot distance from homes and one-thousand-feet from schools or other high occupancy buildings.  Opponents of Initiative 97 say it would be devastating to the industry, while those in favor say it's about protecting health and safety.
