Theater Shooting Survivors Gather at New Monument

Friday marks six years since 12 people were killed and dozens more wounded in the Aurora Theater shooting.  Survivors and family members of victims gathered for an annual candlelight vigil and procession from the theater to the Aurora Municipal Center, where a permanent memorial was recently installed.

The sculpture featuring 83 white cranes will be dedicated next week.  At times, artist Douwe Blumberg felt overwhelmed with the project.

"They loved the concept and I loved the concept," Blumberg said.  "You just get it done and then pray that it's well received and that it does the job that it's intended to do."

Each crane contains mementos from survivors and victims' families.
