President Trump is facing criticism from Colorado lawmakers over the way he handled his post-meeting press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a statement, Republican Senator Cory Gardner said he still supports maximum sanctions on Russia. He tweeted "Putin's Russia is not a friend to the United States."
Republican Congressman Mike Coffman criticized the President for taking Putin's denial of Russian election interference at face value. Coffman tweeted, "President Trump should give greater consideration to U.S. Intelligence agencies over the Kremlin's rhetoric."
Democratic Senator Michael Bennet believed the meeting and press conference elevated Putin on the world stage. In a series of tweets, Bennet accused the President of failing to protect our democracy.
President Trump also took to twitter to defend his actions.
