Deadly Mushroom Discovered in Aurora

The Colorado Mycological Society is issuing a warning to people in the Metro Area who have oak trees not to eat pretty white mushroons they may find beneath those trees.

They could be dead Destroying Angel mushrooms that can attack your kidneys and liver and kill you within a week to ten days if you are not properly treated after eating them.

Two Destroying Angel mushrooms were found growing on a lawn in Aurora under an oak tree. Close examination confirmed they were Destroying Angels. This is the first time the deadly variety has been found in the populated Metro Area.

Linnea Gillman with the Mycological Society says they felt duty bound to issue a warning to protect humans and their pets.

The Destroying Angel does have one distinct characteristic, a button-like end on their stems
