Durango May Ask Voters for Tax Increase

Durango's city council is considering asking voters to approve a tax increase because of the resort town's rough tourist season.The 416 fire forced the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to shut down for several weeks. The train accounts for millions of  dollars in tourist spending in Durango, Silverton, and La Plata and San Juan counties.The Durango Herald reports sales tax collections for June are expected to be low. June is one of Durango's key months for businesses.
