I-25 "Gap" Projects Gets Federal Funding Boost

Colorado officials announced Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation has approved a 65 million dollar grant for the I-25 lane-widening project between Castle Rock and Monument.  Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said the project would be similar to the new express lanes on U.S. 36 between Boulder and Denver.

"I think the reality is that we'd be much better off with that toll lane than we would with the two lanes we already have," Suthers said.

C-DOT has committed 250 million dollars to the project and local governments have added 35 million.

The project could start later this year.
