Samour is Colorado's New Supreme Court Justice

The judge who presided over the Aurora Theater Shooting trial will now join the Colorado Supreme Court. Governor John Hickenlooper has selected Carlos Samour, Jr. to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Chief Justice Nancy Rice.

Samour has an interesting back story. His family fled their native El Salvador to come to Colorado when Samour was 13 -years-old.  His father had been a judge who refused to do the government's bidding. The family was targeted and their home was once attacked with gunfire.

Because he didn't speak the language and our judicial system is different, Samour's father worked as a bus driver in the Denver area to support his large family.

Judge Samour is a graduate of Columbine High School, the University of Colorado in Denver and the University of Denver Law School.

He is known for his fairness, being open minded and for his respect for the rule of law in America.
