Snowstorm dumps I-70 closures on the mountains

A Saturday afternoon snowstorm dumped heavy snow on I-70, creating whiteout conditions and forcing the closure of I-70 in the high country.  Eastbound I-70 was closed at Vail.   A shelter set-up for stranded travelers quickly filled-up, prompting Vail officials to open a second shelter at the Vail Interfaith Chapel.

Travelers heading west were stopped at the Morrison exit, just west of the Golden.    The eastbound AND westbound closures were lifted around 11:30pm.
