Trevor Siemian put the 49ers away and might have put away the race for the Broncos' starting quarterback position. Siemian completed 8-of-11 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown to lead the Broncos to a 33-14 vicotry over the San Francisco 49ers, spoiling the preseason home opener for new 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Siemian did not start, as Broncos coach Vance Joseph opted to begin the game with second-year quarterback Paxton Lynch. But the competition between the two quarterbacks might have effectively ended Saturday as Lynch did not complete any passes longer than seven yards while Siemian pushed the ball downfield. His touchdown was a 19-yard pass to Jordan Taylor in the final minute of the second quarter and gave the Broncos a 20-0 lead at halftime.
