Rivalry Renewed: A Look Back

With the Colorado-Nebraska series resuming this week, we thought it would be fun to look back at some of the classic moments in the series.

In 1986 the Buffs entered the Nebraska game 2-4 in Coach Bill McCartney's fifth season.  Thanks to a Jeff Campbell TD on a reverse and a halfback pass TD from OC Oliver to Lance Carl the Buffs pulled the upset over the #3 Huskers 20-10.

In 1989 the Buffs and Huskers were both undefeated heading into their meeting at Folsom Field.  The game came down to the final play with Dave McLoughan knocking down the final pass to preserve a 27-21 CU win paving the way for a trip to the Orange Bowl.

In 1990 the weather was awful in Lincoln.  The Buffs trailed 12-0 entering the fourth quarter in part to three Eric Bieniemy fumbles in the game.  In the fourth however Bieniemy scored four touchdowns and the Buffs rolled 27-12, eventually winning the national championship.

In 2001 Nebraska entered the game riding a 9-game winning streak in the series.  They were undefeated and ranked #1 with mostly blowout wins.  CU was ranked 15th with two losses heading into the game.  For many CU fans this is the highlight of the series.  62-36, any questions?
