It was all but academic the release of Quarterback Jeff Driskel until the Broncos made it official Monday, releasing the 5-year vet and added Tight End Eric Saubert, who's played in 40 games in 4 NFL seasons with Atlanta, Chicago and most recently, Jacksonville.

Driskel appeared in 2 games under center for Denver in 2020, his lone start a Week 3 28-10 loss to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Bucs, Week 3, in Denver. Driskel threw for 432 yards and 3 TDs in a Broncos uniform, but may be most well known for throwing an interception in Pittsburgh that ended with Wide Receiver Courtland Sutton tearing his ACL and MCL attempting to make a tackle on the play. The release of Driskel doesn't cost Denver any money, but does carry a $750,000 Salary Cap hit in terms of Dead Money.

Saubert, who 6-5, 253-pounds began his career out of Drake University spending the first 2 seasons Atlanta (2017-18). He played for the Bears in 2019 and Jacksonville last year. Selected by the Falcons in the fifth round (174th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, he has recorded 10 catches for 85 yards (8.5 avg.) to go along with six special-teams tackles in his career.

Saubert saw action in 8 games (4 starts) with the Jaguars this past season, catching 3 passes for 16 yards and contributing two special-teams stops. He played in 14 or more games in each of his 2 seasons with the Falcons and finished with a career-high 5-catches for 48 yards (9.6 avg.) in 2018.
