The Colorado Rockies are ready. They are ready for the 2018 season. They are ready to get spring training started.
And they will do that when pitchers and catchers report to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale on February 13.
The Rockies Winter Caravan wrapped up on Saturday, January 20 at Coors Field. Manager Bud Black, third baseman Nolan Arenado and outfielder Charlie Blackmon all spoke with reporters on a variety of topics including the Wild Card loss to the Diamondbacks, the offseason, expectations for 2018, the makeup of the club, contract situations and more.
Each of the interviews is below.
"Ultimately, the goal is to win a World Series. Last year, we took a step in that direction. Every year is different. That's a message to the players. We can't rest of last year's successes." - Rockies manager Bud Black
"There hasn't been a week that I haven't thought about that game [the Wild Card loss to the Diamondbacks]. I started training pretty quickly because I was hungry. I wanted to play more baseball. My cousin went to to go play winter ball and I was kind of jealous of him because I wanted to keep playing baseball. It hurt but it can only make us better. It makes me hungrier and I can't wait for spring training." - Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado
"That's a two-way street. I really like playing here. It's a great place to be; I like the people. I've also been in a one year [contract] situation for the past three, four years. It doesn't really change anything for me. I'm used to that go-out-and-produce mindset. Hopefully something happens, that would be great. I think that happens to a lot of players. They sign a one-year contract in arbitration and then sign an extension maybe sometime in spring training. But I don't plan to be thinking about that during the season. That's my time to work and I don't want to be distracted." - Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon
