GOV. POLIS: Likely To Extend Stay-At-Home Order Past April 11

Colorado Governor Jared Polis gives a COVID-19 update on Monday, March 30, 2020.

Governor Jared Polis gave an update on the spread of COVID-19 in Colorado and said even though social distancing measures are showing to be effective in slowing the spread of the virus, he will likely need to extend the stay-at-home order beyond the current April 11 deadline.

Over the weekend, President Trump said social distancing guidelines will be in effect through April 30.

Monday, Gov. Polis indicated that Colorado could soon be following that timeline.

"Obviously he [Pres. Trump] expressed his initial hopes, a hope that we all would have shared, that by Easter Sunday this could have been resolved in a way where people could attend mass or go back to work that following Monday," Gov. Polis said. "That seems increasingly unlikely. The President now has a goal of April 30th and whatever those steps are, it's likely that additional steps will need to be taken beyond April 11."

In addition, it appears that online education will be the norm for the rest of the school year and his administration has communicated that to school district superintendents in Colorado.

"It is likely that you won't be able to resume normal classroom activities this school year," Gov. Polis said.

Gov. Polis gave the following statistics about COVID-19 in Colorado:

--2,627 cases (as of mid-day on Monday)

--414 people hospitalized

--47 counties have at least one case of COVID-19

--51 deaths in Colorado due to COVID-19, including the first death of a person under the age of 40 years old

--15,364 COVID-19 tests have been completed.

--80%-85% of people who contract COVID-19 will recover on their own.
