4/3/24 Blog: A New Documentary on Big Medicine Is Out

WHAT HAS BIG MEDICINE DONE TO US? That is the question being asked in the new documentary SICK: Unmasking Big Medicine, which you can watch the trailer for below.

You can watch the full documentary here, but it will cost you a dollar for a preview subscription. I've Mary Rooke, one of the writer for Daily Caller on the show today at 1.

"MOVE ALONG NOW" IS DENVER'S OFFICIAL STRATEGY When it comes to illegal immigrants that we've made very comfortable for the last year or so. Why would they move along when they've been welcomed, fed, sheltered, and given gobs of help from Denver? Would you? This as the Mayor and City Council remain determined to continue the policies that are bringing illegal immigrants here in the first place. From the Denver Gazette:

Officials in El Paso Texas have warned that free, onward transportation likely has — inadvertently — encouraged immigrants to come to Denver.
“There’s a pull factor created by this, and the policies in Denver for paying for onward destinations,” Irene Gutiérrez, executive director of El Paso County Community Services in west Texas, has said.
Unconvinced, city council members and Johnston have doubled down on their belief the influx necessitates providing onward travel.
“We don’t have the option of not doing onward travel,” Councilman Darrell Watson has said.
Watson added: “If we did not do onward travel, we would be in a deeper predicament than we are in right now.”

The City's desire to virtue signal as a "welcoming city" for illegal immigrants is costing us big and putting these immigrants in a precarious situation. We've done this to ourselves entirely.

CHERRY CREEK IS WHERE DOWNTOWN DENVER WENT As the shopping and office district is now being called the "economic center of Denver". Cherry Creek is running at less than 1% vacancy right now and this is a place with absolutely terrible parking. Downtown Denver is running just over 37% vacancy in our office buildings. Businesses seem to have deserted downtown and relocated to Cherry Creek. What is Cherry Creek missing? Whacked out homeless people for starters.

HOW IS AURORA'S HOMELESS NAVIGATION CENTER DIFFERENT THAN THE HOMELESS HOTELS? That's the question being answered in a series of community meetings around the site. They are creating a Good Neighbor Agreement with the surrounding neighborhood, building an eight foot high security fence around the entire property and already providing a higher level of security at the property than Denver's homeless hotels have. If you live near here I'd advise you to go to one of these meetings to get your questions answered and concerns heard. Read more here.

ABOUT BIDEN GETTING THE VAPORS ABOUT AN ISRAELI AIR STRIKE The air strike killed seven aid workers who had been serving meals to citizens in Gaza and the President responded with shock and horror, even releasing a statement saying he was "outraged" by the attack. See it here.

Oddly he wasn't outraged when he did the same thing.

I'm not saying that killing aid workers is okay, because it's not, but they were operating in a war zone. War is hell as they say, and bad things happen when you least expect it. The Israelis say this was an errant air strike and issued a statement:

Israel’s top military commander formally acknowledged on Wednesday that its military had made a “grave mistake” and apologized for the attack on an aid convoy that killed seven workers from the charity group World Central Kitchen, a rare admission of fault by Israel in the six-month-old war in the Gaza Strip.
“It was a mistake that followed a misidentification, at night, during the war, in a very complex condition,” the Israeli military chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, said in a video. “It shouldn’t have happened.”

It did happen, but acting like this was some sort of terror attack on aid workers is not helpful to the bigger cause, which is eliminating an organization which does not believe Israel has a right to exist. Biden should shut up and sit down on this one.

THE MAYOR'S HOMELESS INITIATIVE HAS SPENT $110,000 PER HOMELESS PERSON At least that's the back of the napkin math I did after reading this story from 9News via the Denver Gazette. They went back and sifted through City Council meetings to add up what has been spent or allocated to the Mayor's House 1000 program designed to get 1000 homeless people off the street last year. So far it's about $111,000,000. But we don't know REALLY because the Mayor's office won't say for sure, even when asked by City Council members. This is not okay. Read it here.

DEMOCRATS WANT TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO GET DRIVER'S LICENSES And this will be ANOTHER magnet to pull people here. They really don't understand that when they make it easier for illegal immigrants to APPEAR to be legal citizens it is a draw for other immigrants who want that privilege. Read it here.

LAKEWOOD KEEPS CRIME CRIMINAL The City Council overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to decriminalize low-level crimes like trespassing and public urination that are often enforced on homeless people. The Mayor flatly said no, adding “I can’t imagine telling a voter that we said we are going to be getting rid of the consequences to crime,” said Lakewood Mayor Wendi Strom. Good for her and good for Lakewood. NOWHERE has this made anything better.

DEMOCRATS SIDE WITH VIOLENT OFFENDERS By not moving a bill that would require cash bail for violent offenders with previous violent convictions. They are worried such a bill would be an unfair burden for those people who maim and kill repeatedly. No word on the burden felt by the families of the victims they attack. Thankfully violent criminals have Democrats to look out for their wellbeing!

BIG FOOD IS PUSHING THE ANTI-DIET MESSAGE This is the least surprising story I've seen in some time. The "love your body at any size" movement has powerful friends: the food industry which is so good at making us fat. Read this:

General Mills has toured the country touting anti-diet research it claims proves the harms of “food shaming.” It has showered giveaways on registered dietitians who promote its cereals online with the hashtag #DerailTheShame, and sponsored influencers who promote its sugary snacks. The company has also enlisted a team of lobbyists and pushed back against federal policies that would add health information to food labels.

Influencers are being paid to push cereal, which I love but honestly is my enemy when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight. The FTC recently cracked down on a bunch of them for not disclosing who was paying them properly. Read about it here.

WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S NEW AT THE ROCKIES? Read this and find out the answer is nothing. Nothing is changing, nothing will change but Dick Monfort is forever optimistic that THIS will be the year that the strategy that has failed over and over again is going to work.

THE BEEPOCALYPSE IS OFFICIALLY OVER And not because all the bees are dead, as we were told with absolute certainty would happen in the early 2000s, but because we have MORE BEE COLONIES THAN EVER. From the Washington Post:

After almost two decades of relentless colony collapse coverage and years of grieving suspiciously clean windshields, we were stunned to run the numbers on the new Census of Agriculture (otherwise known as that wonderful time every five years where the government counts all the llamas): America’s honeybee population has rocketed to an all-time high.
We’ve added almost a million bee colonies in the past five years. We now have 3.8 million, the census shows. Since 2007, the first census after alarming bee die-offs began in 2006, the honeybee has been the fastest-growing livestock segment in the country! And that doesn’t count feral honeybees, which may outnumber their captive cousins several times over.

There has a been a boom in beekeeping in Texas because of some changes in agricultural zoning that has inspired many to become beekeepers so bees are everywhere and most certainly not dead.

JOHN STOSSEL TAKES ON THE LIES AROUND GLOBALIZATION

MINIMUM WAGE GOES UP, LAYOFFS COMMENCE And I'm talking about in California, where they raised minimum wage to $20 an hour, but only for quick service or fast food chains with more than 60 locations in the state. Businesses are responding by laying people off, cutting hours or even testing out a fully automated restaurant with no employees. This will end the way that people who understand economics know it will, badly.

THE KETO DIET CAN HELP MENTAL ILLNESS This is fascinating because it makes me wonder what role sugar plays in things like schizophrenia. A researchers found during medical school that patients in her obesity clinic with medication resistant schizophrenia with auditory hallucinations that actually stopped while the patient was on the keto diet. Keto has already been shown to help people with epilepsy and now it's shown to have a positive impact on people with severe mental illness. This is pretty amazing.

HUNTER BIDEN'S ATTORNEY COMPLAINS ABOUT "ABNORMAL" PROSECUTION And he's being roasted for thinking that just because the First Son has gotten away with so much he shouldn't be charged in his tax case. That's not exactly what he said but isn't that what he means?

HOW YOU MAKE A BURRITO SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOU At least according to a body language expert in the UK. I'm not very good at making burritos that don't fall apart so I'm not sure what that says about me.

SEATTLE IS DOING AWAY WITH GIFTED PROGRAMS Because they aren't "inclusive" enough. Of course they aren't, they are for kids who are truly gifted by design. Instead of increasing testing for more students of color they are simply pushing the gifted kids into regular classrooms and expecting teachers to come up with separate lesson plans for everyone in the class. This is why private school enrollment is booming in Seattle. But when you vote for DEI, this is what you get.

THIS SHOULD PROVE ALLIGATORS DON'T WANT TO EAT PEOPLE Especially in the Everglades where no one feeds them. An airboat flipped and tossed a bunch of tourists into alligator infested waters and no one got eaten. The driver was arrested for not having the proper license to run tours though.
