07/21/23 Blog: Miranda Devine Talks the Biden Family and More

NICK FERGUSON SITS IN TODAY As I recover from my vocal cord surgery.

THIS IS FAR MORE DAMNING THAN AN OVERHEARD BAR CONVERSATION The FD-1023 that was released by Sen. Chuck Grassley yesterday alleges that Joe Biden was bribed to get a prosecutor in Ukraine fired. It comes from a source with first hand knowledge of these alleged events and from what anyone knows right now, it was simply buried and never investigated. Compare this to the tip that launched the Trump investigation, where a guy overheard a guy who was loosely connected to the campaign say they knew emails were coming that could damage a political opponent. Does this seem right? Miranda Devine demands a special counsel investigation here, but you need to read yesterday's column which lists the things testified to by the whistleblowers before Congress about the Biden Crime Family. And yes, they are a crime family. Just one that is very, very well protected.

CHINA NEEDS A STRONGER RESPONSE THAN WHAT WE'RE GIVING IT That is the opinion of Gordon Chang, who has been writing and studying China and it's influence for decades. He recently said that more young Americans will make dumb choices like the idiot soldier who ran across the border to North Korea because they've been taught WE are evil and not taught the evils of communism. He joins me today to discuss what the US should be doing rather than what we are actually doing today.

YOU CAN USE SICK LEAVE FOR ANYTHING YOU WANT STARTING IN AUGUST A huge expansion of why you can use sick leave in Colorado takes hold in August and it pretty much allows you to say "I'm having a sad day" to stay home. Read about them here.

I THINK MORE ABSENT DADS FEEL THIS WAY THAN WILL ADMIT IT I saw this story yesterday and think it's an important admission for an absent dad to make. Former boxer Oscar De La Hoya is being honest about being a bad dad to his kids. He let their moms and their stepdads raise them because he says,

"I did try to be a father full-time for a few years, and it was beautiful," he continued. "It was amazing to raise a little girl, but there came a point where you say to yourself, 'Wait a minute. You're not worthy of this. You try to convince yourself that you are not worthy of this; that love is not possible in your life, because of what I lived through, not receiving that love when I was a kid. My father never told me, 'I love you. My mother never told me she loved me. She never really gave me a hug. When I would cry, she would start hitting me. That is how bad it was."

I'm glad he's being honest because I think there are a lot of damaged people, both men and women, who make this mistake. Kids don't need you to be perfect, they need you to be there and never stop trying.

I BET DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS VOTES TO RELEASE THE TAPES TODAY They are holding a special Friday session on whether or not to release the tapes that WILL be released because one judge has already ordered them too but they are appealing. My guess is they knew they are going to lose this and be forced to release the tapes so they are going to vote on a Friday afternoon in the hopes that no one pays attention to their reversal. I am paying attention.

ZERO CITATIONS HAVE BEEN WRITTEN TO HOMELESS PEOPLE And downtown business owners are NOT happy about this at all and said as much during a monthly Community Advisory Group at Denver Police Department District 6 on Washington Street. The police representative said their hands are tied because a city ordinance has made it impossible to enforce the camping ban downtown. They need to name the ordinance and the City Council members who voted for it. Read more here.

DRAMA ABOUNDS AT CENTRAL CITY OPERA And I'm talking offstage, not on. Yes, productions are underway this summer, but the CEO is now out in the middle of it and no one is saying if she was fired or resigned. I'm guessing she was fired because no one will talk and the issue is ongoing labor union issues at the Opera. Read more here.

TO TIP OR NOT TO TIP That is the question pondered by our own Krista Kafer in her great Substack column here. She's right, of course, tipping has gotten completely out of hand.

IS PUTIN GEARING UP TO INVADE POLAND? It certainly seems that Putin wants Poland on notice of SOMETHING, whether that is greater ambitions to invade or to prevent them from gearing up for their own defense. Putin has claimed that Poland has ambitions to attack neighbor Belarus, which is a close ally of Putin's Russia. Poland has moved troops to the Belarus border in response to the Wagner Group, the mercenary group that staged an unsuccessful coup a few weeks ago in Moscow, training Belarusian troops near the Polish border. At the same time, Russia has moved tactical nukes into Belarus for the first time. This could be Putin laying the groundwork to justify an invasion of Poland at some point. I'm beginning to think that Putin is itching for another World War.

"THE BEST SINGER IN THE BUSINESS" IS DEAD That's what Frank Sinatra called Tony Bennett, who is dead at 96 today. I had a literal run-in with Tony Bennett I will tell you about today. What a singer that man was. This is one of my versions of a song done by so many artists, including Frank Sinatra, but Tony did it best and it showcases his stunningly good voice beautifully.

Another one of my favorites.

And of course, the most famous one of all I think.

RIP, Mr. Bennett, the world is a better place because you were in it.

TRY CENSORING A SONG IN A SMALL TOWN When CMT decided to not play the video for Jason Aldean's "Try That In a Small Town" they opened themselves up to the kind of backlash that is crushing Bud Light, Ben and Jerry's and more. Why companies keep doing this is beyond me, but here we are. The song is now #1 on download lists and CMT may see it's ratings crater as they have tied themselves to the censorship movement. POLITICIANS ARE ABOUT TO SCREW UP CREDIT CARD REWARDS PROGRAMS And maybe you don't use one, but LOTS of people do. Now a piece of legislation from none other than Dick Durbin may crush rewards programs as he does the bidding of big retailers like Walmart and Target who don't want to pay credit card fees. NOW SLEEPING WELL IS RACIST I just can't anymore with this. Read this if you want.

DO YOU HAVE A VISION FOR YOUR FINANCIAL FUTURE? I didn't for a long time but I do now and I'm working towards it with intention. Jordan Peterson was on the Dave Ramsey show and he talked about how few people actually have a clear vision of what they want from their financial futures and that just creating that vision means you can begin to work towards it.

NUGS NET 800K FOR ONE FLORIDA FAMILY And I'm talking about chicken nuggets here. A four year old suffered a burn on her leg when a hot McNugget fell between her leg and the seatbelt. She has a scar from the burn and the jury decided that is worth $800,000 so I'll be driving around dropping hot nuggets into my lap for the foreseeable future.
