07/18/23 Blog: Human Trafficking is Not Only a Central American Problem

KRISTA KAFER RIDING SHOTGUN TODAY As I continue to recover from my surgery.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING HAPPENS EVERYWHERE The movie Sound of Freedom tells the tale of a man compelled to quit his job with Homeland Security to go to Colombian to rescue children that had been sold into sex slavery. It's very compelling but only touches on the horror that is sex trafficking worldwide. There is an organization here in Denver that helps victims of sex trafficking and I've got the Executive Director Johanna Spille of Covered Colorado on at 12:30 to discuss what they do and why they do it. Find out more and support this organization by clicking here.

CHECKING THE FAILED PROMISES OF LEGAL POT I mentioned last week that we may have hit peak pot sales in Colorado, which was to be expected as more states chose legalization and the tax money that comes with that. This is a great column that reminds us of the promises made and subsequently broken by the push to legalize weed. Let's just say the advocates were wrong or lying.

DICK WADHAMS IS NOT HAPPY WITH THE CURRENT COLORADO GOP And their idiotic move to try and exit the open primary here by creating a new "bylaw" that is straight out of the old Soviet playbook. He's written a scorcher of a column on it here. He's on at 2:35 to discuss.

NEWS ALERT: BIDEN MAKES A SOLID PICK FOR FAA CHIEF And I feel like this is a news alert after the disastrous nomination of Denver International Airport's chief Phil Washington, who stumbled mightily before withdrawing his name from consideration. The new pick is a guy who has been a part of the aviation industry for decades, is not opposed to privatizing air traffic control and is trying to literally get flying taxis off the ground.

IS THE JOB MARKET REALLY SHIFTING? We have fewer available jobs right now according to a new analysis of open positions. This story posits that employers have been able to finally find the workers they need, but could it be that businesses are pulling back on potential new hires because of the slowing economy? Or did they finally pull ads for jobs they were never going to fill anyway? I'm not sure but I bet some of you have some insight. We shall discuss.

MAYOR MIKE JOHNSTON ALREADY MAKING ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT HOMELESSNESS And that is expected this morning, so hopefully I'll have some details by the time the show starts.

WHAT ARE COLORADANS CONCERNED ABOUT? If you guessed the cost of living and housing affordability, you win! The results of the 4th annual Pulse poll are out, and they show that we are all broke and worried about how we're going to pay our bills. Or at least that's what people are most worried about. From the Survey, which you can find in its entirety here.

There is little surprising here, other than 2% say they are concerned about Women's Rights/Abortion which is allowed until the moment of birth in our ghoulish state. Overpopulation makes a big appearance, but other than dropping the gates at the state line I'm not sure what you do about that. Where are your concerns on this list? This one line from a story about the poll in the Denver Gazette caught my eye:

For those in Generation Z, the oldest of which are pushing 26 years of age, almost one-third said they have to live with a roommate or a friend to afford rent or mortgage.

Y'all, this is very normal. I had roommates until I got married at thirty. Why do we keep acting like this is odd?

ANOTHER DUMB TOURIST GORED BY A BISON IN YELLOWSTONE I follow an Instagram account called "touronsofyellowstone" which is just videos and photos of tourists getting way to close to animals and geysers and whatnot. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough, as one woman found out when she was gored by a bison and had to be airlifted to a hospital. I bet that's gonna make a hella big scar. But at least she's got a cool story of where it came from?

WHY YOU HAVE TO HOLD IT AT MANY DENVER PARKS Because scumbags and addicts keep stealing pipes and blowing up bathrooms while also vandalizing them. Remember this when we're told homeless people have to poop in the street because there are no public toilets.

DOES YOUR LANDLORD HAVE TO PROVIDE AC? The answer is no, but if you had it when you moved in and it breaks, they have to fix it. Read more here. I don't know how people here live without ac, though I know lots who still do. Bless all y'all.

IN-N-OUT BURGERS SAYS NO MORE MASKS Because they want their customers to be able to see the faces of their workers to enhance the customer service experience. If a worker has a doctor's note, they can continue to wear a mask. Who is still masking up? If you are, it's anti-science, as we now know definitively that masking didn't really do anything to stop covid. Of course we knew that before covid but whatever.

FAUCI IS GETTING THE EX PRESIDENT TREATMENT FOR NO REASON And thankfully Senator Rand Paul has not moved on from the lying former health official. Fauci has a security detail AND limousine service even though he's fully retired and you and me are paying for it all. Read more here.

ONE SCHOOL DISTRICT DOES AWAY WITH ADVANCED MATH IN THE NAME OF EQUITY And this is the inevitable outcome of equity directives, as educators have decided it is too hard to help black and brown children achieve at a high level so standards must be dropped to fix the numbers. That is what's happening in Cambridge, Mass, where Algebra 1 has been removed from middle schools because not enough black and brown children took the advanced math classes. It is critical that high achieving kids be allowed to take Algebra 1 in middle school if they want to take Calculus and Analytic Geometry in high school, which is critical to being prepared for college in math intensive majors. This is shameful and parents are JUST NOW getting mad about it. Read this from the Boston Globe:

Cambridge school leaders say they can’t reinstate the advanced math classes in middle school: Many students continue to reel from pandemic-related learning losses and are not ready to take algebra 1 before high school, and offering it just for those who are prepared, they say, would only widen the persistent disparities of educational performance among subgroups.
“We have a huge focus on addressing both the academic achievement gaps and the opportunity gaps in our community,” said schools Superintendent Victoria Greer. “One thing the district is not interested in doing is perpetuating those gaps.”

In order to close the achievement gap they are holding white students back. Welcome to equity.

MORE BIDEN INTERFERENCE WITH THE HUNTER BIDEN INVESTIGATION IS CONFIRMED Meaning another whistleblower has been found to be truthful, no matter the spin being spun about them in the media. Read more here about how Hunter Biden AND the Biden transition team were tipped off that the FBI was going to be interviewing Hunter Biden, who mysteriously wasn't available to be interviewed when they showed up. So weird. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

NEW YORK TIMES REVERSES COURSE ON ANOTHER COVID "CONSPIRACY THEORY" And this Tweet explains it all easily.

Remember this before you ever use the New York Times as a source for anything.

MIRANDA LAMBERT CALLS OUT SELFIE GIRLS AT HER CONCERT And though many cheered apparently some left in protest. Is she wrong? I'm not sure how I feel about this without knowing how disruptive the selfie taking actually was.

WILL YOU WATCH THE GOLDEN BACHELOR? Out of all of these Bachelor and Bachelorette shows, this is the one I'm most likely to watch and I'm not gonna watch it. I can't stand young women making fools out of themselves to maybe an older demo would be more bearable? Read about the new 71 year old bachelor, although he doesn't look nearly that old, here.

AI MAKES JOHNNY CASH SING BARBIE GIRL And WOW this is crazy.

BOB IGER MIGHT BE RIGHT ABOUT THIS ONE Though I think he's clueless about why parks attendance is down, he's right about this. He said that Disney diluted the market by flooding it with so many streaming content options and that hurt the box office of Ant Man and even Indiana Jones. He may have something here, but again he's delusional about Pixar in this same article. He blames the poor performance of Lightyear and Elemental on too many films that went straight to streaming rather than the negative press around both of them for being woke films.

NOW DUDES ARE ALLOWED IN SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING And these aren't transwomen, they are actual men who want to swim so now their allowed. Read more here.
