06/07/23 Blog: I'm Going To Be Out For A Month But I Have A Good Reason

I'M HAVING VOCAL CORD SURGERY TOMORROW And the recovery is a long, slow process. I have a fibrous lesion on my vocal cords that is likely the result of an old vocal injury and frankly, my voice hurts. By the time I get done with the show every day my voice is shot and I've got to get this taken care of. It's why I've had to outsource "IN THE WORLD" for Of the Day. Here is an actual image of my actual vocal cords for you:

That white part is NOT supposed to be there and has to be removed. I'll be completely silent for the first week before I begin to use my voice a little bit at a time. The entire healing process will take about six months, but I will be back, whatever that sounds like, on July 7th. My surgeon is the most excellent Dr. David Opperman, who did Ross's surgery as well, so I'm in very, very good hands. He's joining me on the show to talk about it at 12:10 to give all the details. I'd appreciate your prayers and positive energy for a successful surgery and if you need vocal help, I highly recommend the Colorado Voice Clinic. Thanks for all your support!

WEATHER WEDNESDAY IS TODAY So get your weather questions ready for our man Dave Fraser as he joins us at 12:35 to talk all things weather. I've already got some good ones from last week I didn't get to!

CONGRESSMAN ADAM SMITH TALKS CHRONIC PAIN AND ANXIETY Rep. Smith represents Washington's 9th District and has done so since 1997. All the while he suffered with chronic pain and anxiety that at times was crippling and he written a book about how he overcame it all. His new book Lost and Broken details that journey and I've got him today at 2:30 to talk about it. Buy it here, it's on my reading list for my recovery.

MIKE JOHNSTON IS MAYOR And congrats to him. I hope his plans work for Denver. I do not think they are going to but I'm going to hold my fire until we see if I'm wrong, which is always possible.

MY ENDORSEMENT STREAK CONTINUES! The only candidate I "endorsed" was Cande Cdebaca and she continued my losing streak by getting trounced by Darrel Watson. Congrats to Darrel, who seems like a reasonable guy even if he's far the left of me. He's far to the right of the awful Cdebaca so this is a drastic improvement.

THE DENVER CITY COUNCIL RACES MOSTLY WENT WELL As the true loony candidates did not win, though one is in a runoff AGAIN. Find out more here.

I HOPE MAYOR JOHNSTON PAYS ATTENTION TO THIS San Francisco's doom loop is accelerating as more and more businesses vacate downtown and the only people on the streets there are homeless junkies staggering around high on whatever. Now two of the cities largest hotels have announced they are not making anymore payments on their properties, essentially sending them into foreclosure. These two hotels make up 10% of the cities available rooms, and the CEO of Park Hotels and Resorts, which owns the two properties, had this to say in a statement:

In a statement, the firm’s CEO, Thomas Baltimore, Jr., said that San Francisco’s “path to recovery remains clouded and elongated by major challenges” including office vacancies caused by companies letting employees work-from-home, a “weaker than expected citywide convention calendar” through 2027 and “concerns over street conditions.”
“Unfortunately, the continued burden on our operating results and balance sheet is too significant to warrant continuing to subsidize and own these assets,” he concluded. The hotels will be given back to the lender.

We are headed in this same direction. It must be arrested quickly and forcefully or we will end up the exact same way.

DOUGCO RESIDENTS ARE NOT TAKING THE PROPERTY TAX INCREASE LIGHTLY And you have until tomorrow to do what they did, which is file an appeal. The Assessors office says they have gotten a record number of appeals this year. Whatever county you are in, go to your Assessors office online to find out how to appeal. It's not that hard, though finding comparable houses in the time frame they use may not get you much relief. It sure didn't for me.

POLIS VETOES THE RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL BILL And this is one of three he needed to veto. This bill would have given right of first refusal to local governments to buy apartment complexes when they do up for sale. There are three more bills that need to go:

  • HB 23-1120’s mandate for mediation prior to evictions would slow the turnover of rental units from current tenants who aren’t paying rent to new ones who are able to. The extended period of lost income to landlords would be passed on in rent increases for all units.
  • Senate Bill 23-184’s cap on minimum income requirements that landlords use to ensure a tenant can afford the rent will end up causing more evictions; a lower income requirement up front will mean more tenants won’t earn enough to cover rent as time goes by.
  • Warm and fuzzy HB 23-1068’s limit on deposits and fees for pets on a lease would shortchange landlords for the costs they must recover to clean up messes and repair damage left by pets. The difference will get passed on to other tenants.

We'll see what he does with these.

I'M SORRY THIS BOY IS DEAD But I'm more sorry he decided to arm himself to rob a vape store which lead to his death. What a stupid way to die. The Aurora PD let the family, those who wanted to, see the body cam footage that showed Jor'Dell Richardson with a gun and the cop telling the boy to get his hand off the gun before firing. Sometimes cops are put in bad situations by people with bad intent and this appears to be one of them. I can't imagine how the family must feel knowing all this and knowing their boy is gone. What a horrible series of choices this boy made.

TREY PARKER AND MATT STONE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND And I mean on the budget to restore Casa Bonita. I know the metro will make this work for them. Read more here about how they blew through their original $10 million to their now "infinity bucks" budget to not just bring back but to bring it back better than it ever was.

SOME GOVERNOR I'VE NEVER HEARD OF JOINS THE GOP RACE Maybe you've heard of North Dakota Governor Doug Burnum but I have not. Why? I don't live in North Dakota and this guy hasn't done a thing on the national stage until now. He wrote this Op-Ed about why he's running and it all sounds fine but honestly? The ego on some people leads them to make bad decisions. Every additional candidate helps Trump.

CHRIS LICHT IS OUT AT CNN And his attempt to bring the network back to some semblance of credibility is over. No word on what happens now, but he was able to scrub some of the worst partisan hacks from the networks before he got canned so that's something. Read more here.

INSTAGRAM HAS A PEDOPHILE NETWORK PROBLEM I do not work in tech, but it seems to me that blocking an Instagram handle like #pedowhore shouldn't be that hard and yet an investigation by multiple papers showed that child exploitation materials are being traded in the open on Instagram pedophile networks. This is horrifying to me and just shows how BIG this problem is. This is why every decent person must fight any normalization of pedophilia anywhere it happens. Children can't consent. They simply can't. Parent company Meta says they are working on it, but it seems to me they need to work on nothing else until they get a handle on this.

THE NEW PITCH CLOCK RULES ARE WORKING And attendance is WAY up at baseball parks around the country as games move much faster than they did before. Pretty much every team is up...except the Rockies, the White Sox, the Giants, and Detroit. We all know why Rockies attendance is down.

HERE'S A STORY ABOUT CUMULUS THE COCKATOO

IF YOU HAVE WATCHED WHAT IS A WOMAN? WATCH THIS If you haven't watched it yet, you really should, it's still live on Twitter via The Daily Wire here, but watch this interview for a taste of what you missed. This is about the wildest interview from the movie. Trust me, they were all wild.

EVERYONE IS WATCHING MOVIES WITH SUBTITLES We do it in our house, but I find them extremely distracting as my eyes are drawn the words rather than what's happening on the screen. This article says everyone is doing it, are you?

THE FART IN YOUR FACE AIRPLANE SEAT DESIGN IS BACK And seriously? Flying gives people gas and this design puts your face right at fart level for those on the upper deck. This looks horrible.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL SEE ON A WILDLIFE CAMERA As one grandpa found out when two women who were mostly naked seemed to feast on a deer carcass on camera. This feels like a set up to me, but you can read it here.

WHO PAID REP GEORGE SANTOS'S BOND? We will soon find out as the judge has ordered the release of the names. Santos says that they could lose their jobs and even their LIVES but the judge says...well we don't know what she said as she sealed her ruling to allow Santos to appeal. This story and George Santos are just weird.

KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR POO My husband is very avid about paying attention to the stuff that comes out of your body, and now I can tell him he's right. One doctor knew something was wrong when her poo changed shape! Read this for things to look for when it comes to number 2.

ELVIS ISN'T DEAD AND HE LOVES HOCKEY!

I'D BE ASKING FOR A NEW CAR This wife knows her husband just says yes when he's gaming. Watch below or click here

HOW TO SOUND SMARTER WHEN MAKING SMALL TALK This is really interesting but it comes down the principle that people don't remember you, they remember how you made them FEEL. Find out what to say to seem smarter to others here.

AND NOW A BIT OF NOSTALGIA FOR GEN X In the form of stuff that is long gone but that we all knew and some of us loved. Except the Olestra chips, no one loved explosive diarrhea.
