Broncos Head Coach Vic Fangio said you can never have enough good cornerbacks so George Paton's first pick as the General Manager in Denver is Patrick Surtain II, cornerback from Alabama.

Surtain, who was a High School All-American in Plantation Florida started all 12 games as a Freshman. As a Junior he helped lead the Crimson Tide to a National Title and was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2020, as well.

Following the selection, Paton called KOA and told Dave Logan, Rick Lewis & Big Al, what he likes about Surtain.

Following the 1st round, Paton and Head Coach Vic Fangio met the media and Fangio shared what he admires about Surtain's game, "What I like about him is that he has shown that he is very capable both in man and zone. I think that he has good eyes, meaning that he sees more than just the man he’s lined up on. [He’s] a good tackler in the running game and has good ball skills. I think he has the versatility even though we haven’t seen in it on tape. Everything we know about him and what he’s shown, I think that there’s a chance that he can play inside if we need him to as a fifth or sixth DB."

Shortly after being selected, Pat Surtain II called Dave, Rick & Big Al as well and if you listen below, you'll hear the enthusiasm in his voice about joining the Broncos.
