President Trump Condemns Violence In Video Following His Impeachment

President Donald Trump called for peace in a video posted after he became the first president in history to be impeached twice by the House of Representatives.

He addressed the riots at the Capitol last week in which a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol Building during a joint session of Congress. He said those who engaged in violence were "attacking our country."

"Mob violence goes against everything I believe in and everything our movement stands for. No true supporter of mine could truly endorse political violence," Trump said. "No true supporter of mine could ever disrespect law enforcement or our great American flag. No true supporter of mine could ever threaten or harass their fellow Americans. If you do any of these things, you are not supporting our movement. You are attacking it, and you are attacking our country."

He vowed that those who were engaged in the attacks last week will be brought to justice. He said he has been briefed on the potential for violent protests around the country leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and urged demonstrators to remain peaceful.

"There must be no violence, no lawbreaking, and no vandalism of any kind," Trump said. "Everyone must follow our laws and obey the instructions of law enforcement."

President Trump did not mention his impeachment in the five-minute video.
