President Trump Strikes Infrastructure Deal With Democratic Leaders

President Donald Trump Meets With Speaker Pelosi And Senate Leader Schumer To Discuss Infrastructure

President Donald Trump has reached an agreement with Democratic leaders on a $2 trillion infrastructure plan following a “very productive meeting” with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer at the White House.

"We agreed on a number, which was very, very, good, $2 trillion for infrastructure," Schumer told reporters outside the White House. "Originally, we had started a little lower, and even the President was eager to push it up to $2 trillion. That is a very good thing."

Both sides will meet again in a few weeks to discuss how they will pay for the massive spending package. The money will be used to repair bridges, roads, and highways across the country, modernize the nation's power and water systems, and expand broadband internet access.

"We told the President that we needed his ideas on funding," Schumer said. "Where does he propose that we can fund this? Because certainly in the Senate, if we don't have him on board, it would be very hard to get the Senate to go along. We said we would meet in three weeks and he would present to us some of his ideas on funding. So this was a very, very good start and we hope it will go to a constructive conclusion."
