Guilty Plea in Killing of Moose

A 19-year-old Broomfield man has pleaded guilty to several wildlife violations in the illegal killing of a moose.

Callan Hyatt will be fined $20,000, and could get up to a five-year suspension of hunting and fishing privileges in 47 states. Hyatt was elk hunting when he shot a bull moose in Grand County last fall, then did not field dress the animal, or report the mistake.

A Parks and Wildlife ranger matched boot-prints in the snow to Hyatt, as the ranger trolled nearby campsites.

Parks and Wildlife says it's investigating the poaching of two other moose, along with a bull elk, all in Grand County.
