CVS Plans To Start Delivering Prescriptions Right To Your Doorstep

CVS

CVS Health announced that they are launching a new delivery service to bring prescription medications right to people's doorsteps. CVS said that most customers will receive their medication within one and two business days, and possibly the same day depending on where they live. Customers can place the order online using the CVS app or call their local pharmacy directly. Delivery will cost $4.99 and customers can add non-prescription items to their order as well.

Not every drug will be eligible for delivery. The pharmacy chain explained that controlled substances, Medicare Part B items, and drugs that must be refrigerated cannot be delivered and must be picked up in person.

CVS launched a same-day delivery service in New York City last year and is expanding it to Boston, Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The same-day service will cost $8.99.

Customers do not have to be home to accept regular orders but must sign for same-day deliveries.

"The rollout of delivery from nearly all of our 9,800 retail pharmacy locations nationwide represents another step forward for us in delivering innovative omnichannel solutions that help people on their path to better health," CVS Pharmacy's president, Kevin Hourican, said in a statement.

CVS joins Walgreens, who already launched a prescription delivery service. Walgreens charges $19.95 for their service.
